Because Growing Up Isn't Always Easy
Growing up can be tough. Children and teenagers today face pressures, emotions, and life transitions that can feel overwhelming—for them and for the adults who care about them. Whether your child is experiencing anxiety, emotional outbursts, behavioural changes, or simply isn’t quite themselves, it’s not always easy to know how best to help.
At Hills Relationship Centre, we offer a safe, supportive space for young people to express themselves, build emotional resilience, and learn practical skills to manage life’s ups and downs. We also work closely with parents and carers to strengthen family communication, improve understanding, and ensure everyone feels supported along the way.
Every child and every family are different—our counselling approach is personalised, compassionate, and built on connection, trust, and respect. Browse our services below and be sure to check out our parent support section.

A Safe Space Starts with One Small Step — Here’s How We Begin
Our approach is gentle, flexible, and centred around your child’s unique needs. We want both you and your child to feel safe, supported, and cared for from the very beginning. To help make the process simple and stress-free, we’ve outlined a clear step-by-step pathway below, so you know exactly what to expect.
If you’re still feeling unsure or have any questions, please reach out or book a free 10-minute consultation. We’re here to guide you and help put your mind at ease.
We begin by getting to know you and your family.
For younger children, the first session is typically held with a parent or guardian only. This gives you space to share concerns, family history, and goals for support. For older children and teens, we’ll take a flexible approach based on their comfort—it may involve a parent or be held one-on-one.
Counselling sessions are tailored to your child’s age, needs, and personality.
Some children prefer to have a parent with them at first; others are happy to attend on their own. Sessions may include talking, creative play, art, mindfulness, or other gentle strategies to help your child express themselves, build practical coping skills, and explore and address any concerns.
After the initial sessions, we’ll create a support plan that feels right for your family.
This may include working directly with your child, providing parenting support, or offering family sessions. With your permission (and your teen’s if applicable), we can also collaborate with schools or other professionals to ensure care is consistent and well-rounded.

“My daughter was struggling with anxiety and making friends at school, and I felt so helpless. The support she’s received has been incredible — gentle, understanding, and empowering. She looks forward to her sessions and is slowly becoming more confident in herself."

"Our teen son had been withdrawn, angry, and was falling behind in school. We weren’t sure what was going on or how to help. Mark has been working with him to better manage emotions and build his confidence back up, and Toni has been working with us for parent support. We're already noticing a huge shift and are enjoying more quality time together as a family."
